About back up and sync

Support and sync is a storage service that automatically saves your photos and videos to your Google Account. These photos and videos will exist attainable from whatever device where you are logged into your business relationship.

What you demand to back up photos & videos

  • Good net connection.
  • File sizes that can be backed up.  Your files won't be backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that tin can be backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos can be backed upward if you use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If you try to back up a file type not listed here, information technology may not work with Google Photos.

Important: Your Google Account storage is shared across multiple products like Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. If yous accept used all of your storage, y'all won't be able to back upwards new files.

There are 2 means to support your telephone, photographic camera, or storage carte from your computer:

  1. Install Backup and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Set up Google Drive for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Drive for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to back up and thenBack up to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSave.

Important:

  • If you remove a photo or video from your calculator that you previously backed upward to Google Photos, it stays in Google Photos.
  • If yous remove a photograph or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Drive or your computer.
  • Uploads tin be slower and use more than storage if you back upward to both Google Photos and Google Drive. Unless yous need a second copy in Drive, we recommend you lot support photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you already have Backup and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If you already accept Backup and Sync installed, you lot'll be migrated to Google Drive for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Backup and Sync and then follow the steps above to set up Google Drive for desktop.

Select a different upload size

You tin change the upload size for photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from your computer.

Important: You can't alter the upload size for files synced with Google Drive.

Back up your Apple Photo Library (Mac only)

If your computer runs macOS, you lot tin dorsum up your Arrangement Photograph Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If yous have more than one Apple Photos Library, only the Arrangement Photograph Library will exist backed upwards. You can use Apple Photos to change the Organisation Photo Library.
  • If your Apple Photograph Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and cloud will be backed up to Google Photos on macOS 10.15 and above.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Upload and thenComputer.
  3. Notice and select your photos.
  4. Click Open up.

Yous can also drag photos from your computer to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If yous drag a photo to a specific album, the photo will be uploaded to that album.

View where your photos & videos were uploaded from

In Google Photos, y'all can view how you uploaded your photos and videos.
